Spain closed its residency by investment route in 2025. This page explains what the legacy golden visa was and the current position for holders.

The Spanish golden visa was a residency by investment route created in 2013. It granted residence to investors from outside the European Union who placed qualifying capital in Spain, most commonly through the purchase of property.
The route was closed by Organic Law 1/2025, which was published on 3 January 2025. The granting of permits under the property investment option came to a definitive end on 3 April 2025.
The best known qualifying option was the purchase of real estate in Spain at or above 500,000 euros, free of charges and mortgages. Other capital routes such as bank deposits, public debt and shares in Spanish companies were also part of the framework.
Because the route is now closed to new applicants, these figures are recorded here for context only. Do not rely on them for any new application.
New applications are no longer accepted. People who applied before the closing date or who already held a permit keep their status under the rules that applied when they were granted, and may renew where eligible. Verify your individual position with the official authority.
Because the route is closed, no current cost schedule applies to new applicants. The figures below reflect the legacy framework and should not be treated as a live offer.
The legacy permit granted residence in Spain with travel inside the Schengen Area on the terms in force at the time. Holders should confirm renewal rights and any path to long term residence or naturalisation with the official authority, since general immigration rules continue to apply.
