Eligibility for Mexican nationals

Mexicans are eligible. The programme is open to applicants from outside the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, so Mexican nationals qualify on the same terms as most other third country investors. There is no reported nationality bar.

The main applicant must be at least 18, hold a clean record, not be under sanctions, and show stable and regular financial resources to support the family without relying on Maltese social assistance. Applicants must also meet an asset test, commonly shown as assets of at least 500,000 euros including 150,000 euros in liquid financial assets, with an alternative threshold published by the agency. Confirm the live rules with the Residency Malta Agency.

Routes

The programme is built around a qualifying home in Malta plus official contributions. On the property side an applicant either buys residential property at or above the published minimum value or rents a qualifying home at or above the published minimum annual rent, and holds it for at least five years.

Alongside the property commitment, applicants pay a government contribution and an administrative fee set by the agency, and make a charitable donation to a registered Maltese organisation. Family members such as a spouse and dependants can usually be included, subject to the rules in force when you apply.

Timeline

In most cases the process runs around six months or more from a complete application to the residence cards, driven mainly by the due diligence stage and card production after biometrics. The Residency Malta Agency reviews compliance with the conditions each year for the first five years. Confirm the current service standard and review cycle with the official authority.

Costs

Use the figures below as a starting point only. Government contributions, the administrative fee, legal work, due diligence and added charges for extra dependants sit on top of the qualifying property cost. Confirm every current amount with the official authority.

Common questions

Can Mexican citizens apply for the Malta Permanent Residence Programme?

Yes. The programme is open to investors from outside the European Union, so Mexican nationals are eligible. Approval depends on the asset test, the property and contribution commitments and passing due diligence, not on nationality. Confirm the current rules with the Residency Malta Agency.

Does the programme give citizenship?

No. It grants permanent residence. Citizenship is a separate process with its own requirements. Confirm the current path with the official authority.

Do I have to live in Malta?

The programme is residence based and is often used without a heavy physical presence requirement, but you must keep the qualifying property and meet the yearly compliance checks. Confirm the current obligations with the official authority before you rely on them.
