Eligibility for Nigerian nationals

Nigerian citizens are eligible to apply. The programme is open to nationals from outside the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, which includes Nigeria. Applicants must be at least 18, hold a clean criminal record, pass due diligence and not be subject to sanctions or active prosecution.

Applicants must also show the required capital and a stable, lawful source of funds. Applications can only be filed through an agent licensed by Residency Malta. We do not name or recommend firms. Use Get Matched to compare vetted advisors.

Routes

The programme is a single residence route built on a set of combined requirements rather than competing investment tracks. An applicant evidences capital, takes a qualifying residential property in Malta or Gozo by rent or purchase, pays the government contribution and administration fee, and makes a philanthropic donation to a registered Maltese organisation.

Applicants must evidence capital of at least EUR 500,000, of which at least EUR 150,000 is in financial assets, or capital of at least EUR 650,000, of which at least EUR 75,000 is in financial assets. The rental route requires a qualifying property from EUR 14,000 per year, held for at least five years. The donation is EUR 2,000 to a registered non governmental organisation.

Timeline

Residency Malta does not publish a single fixed timeline, and the duration depends on due diligence and document gathering. In practice the process moves through submission by a licensed agent, due diligence review, an approval in principle, then completion of the property, contribution and donation steps before the residence card is issued. Confirm current processing expectations with Residency Malta.

Costs

The main cost lines are the capital you evidence, the property you rent or buy, the government contribution and administration fee, and the philanthropic donation. Government linked figures change periodically, so use the table as a checklist and confirm each current figure with the official authority.
