Eligibility for Brazilian nationals

The Malta Permanent Residence Programme is open to nationals from outside the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Brazilian nationals qualify on that basis. The programme is run by the Residency Malta Agency.

Applicants must be over 18, hold a clean record, not be subject to sanctions, and meet an asset requirement. You can only apply through a licensed agent, and meeting the figures does not by itself guarantee approval.

Routes

This is a permanent residence programme, not a citizenship route, and it does not lead automatically to a passport. Applicants combine a qualifying property step, either purchase or lease, with the required government payments and a donation to an approved non governmental organisation. Confirm the current combination with the Residency Malta Agency.

Timeline

Processing is reported at around six to fourteen months from engaging a licensed agent to receiving the residence card. Times vary with due diligence, so confirm current timelines with the official authority.

Costs

Qualifying property must be purchased at a value of at least EUR 375,000, or at least EUR 300,000 in the south of Malta or in Gozo, or leased at a value of at least EUR 14,000 a year, or at least EUR 10,000 a year in the south of Malta or Gozo, with the property held for five years.

Applicants also make a donation of EUR 2,000 to an approved non governmental organisation, pay an administrative fee and a government contribution, and must show assets of at least EUR 500,000 including EUR 150,000 in liquid form. Confirm the current administrative fee and government contribution with the Residency Malta Agency.
