Vietnamese nationals can pursue Costa Rica investor residency, known as the inversionista category, through a qualifying investment in property, a business or an approved project. This page sets out the routes, the authority and what to confirm.
Information, not advice. Figures are indicative and current as of June 2026. Always confirm the present rules with the official program authority and a licensed professional before you act.
Vietnamese nationals are eligible for the inversionista category. The route is open by investment rather than by nationality. Property used to qualify must be registered in your personal name in the National Registry, since corporate ownership is not accepted for this purpose.
Qualifying investments include real estate, an active business or company shares, securities and venture capital, sustainable tourism or national interest projects, and forestry projects which carry a separate lower threshold. You document the investment to the immigration authority as part of the application.
Investor residency is first granted as a temporary status that is renewed, and can lead to permanent residency after a qualifying period. Processing times vary with file volume at the authority. Confirm current windows with the DGME.
Budget for the qualifying investment, government and filing fees, the deposit required of applicants and any professional support. The headline investment threshold is set by law and is currently reduced under a temporary measure. Confirm the current figure and its validity with the official authority.
| Item | Indicative amount | Notes |
